The FTSE 100 .FTSE was up 0.2 percent at 7,446.84 points by 0920 GMT, having hit a fresh high of 7,460.20 points at the open.
Indian shares ended at a record closing high, after government data showed that consumer inflation in April eased to its lowest in at least 5 years.
Shares of state-run HUDCO, which recently concluded its Rs 1,224 cr initial public offer, will make stock market debut on May 19.
The Sensex has so far touched a high of 30,357.96 points and a low of 30,273.62 points during the intra-day trade.
The pan-European STOXX 600 index rose 0.2 percent, hovering around its highest levels in 21 months.
