The major ports in the country witnessed 3.91 per cent rise in cargo traffic to 174.02 million tonnes in the April-June quarter this fiscal.
The share of country's cargo traffic handled by top 12 major ports is on increase and has reached 58 per cent in 2017-18, a government report said.
The top 12 major ports in the country recorded 2.41 per cent growth in cargo handling at 116.26 million tonne (MT) in the first two months of the current fiscal, the shipping ministry said.
India's 12 major ports saw cargo traffic increase by 1.78 per cent to 56.81 million tonnes (MT) in April 2018.
Buoyed by a demand revival, India's 12 major ports witnessed a 4.58 pc rise in cargo traffic at 561 MT during April-January of this fiscal, according to ports' body IPA.
